Gabriel Laurence Photography

Documentary, Portrait & Nature

Journey

Gabriel first started photography when he was living in a tiny studio apartment and was unable to compose music because lack of space. He found a new more compact creative outlet: the camera. He started attending climate justice protests in Washington, DC, which allowed him to enter an environment of fast-paced training with high expectation. Gabriel would later photograph other kinds of protests like those surrounding George Floyd. Protest photography taught him how to photograph in difficult and quickly changing landscapes, how to avoid danger from both police and non-peaceful protesters, and how to tell a compelling story through images.

Once Gabriel started a digital photography certificate class at the University of California, Berkley, he started working with models on portrait photography. This pushed him to learn about angles, lighting, mood creation, and style. Furthermore, in the certificate class, he learned about technical and theoretical concepts within photography.
